Isochronic tones are regular beats of a single tone used for brainwave entrainment. Similar to monaural beats, the interference pattern that produces the beat is outside the brain so headphones are not required for entrainment to be effective. They differ from monaural beats, which are constant sine wave pulses rather than entirely separate pulses of a single tone. As the contrast between noise and silence is more pronounced than the constant pulses of monaural beats, the stimuli is stronger and has a greater effect on brain entrainment. Isochronic tones work by emitting sound at regular intervals. This excites the thalamus and causes the brain to duplicate the frequency of the Isochronic tones, changing its thought patterns.


The Pulse Entrainment music featured on this CD consists of a rhythmic, quieting pulse designed to balance the left/right brain hemispheres and layers of interweaving musical drones designed to create a sense of flow and serenity. This CD may be listened to through headphones, ear-buds, or under natural ambient conditions. The isochronic tones and mixes used in the mastering process enables the listener to enjoy, and benefit from, the sound effects regardless of preferred medium.

The Pulse Entrainment techniques used in these recordings are based on years of clinical research findings and sound collages. Pulse Entrainment is a procedure designed to synchronize, and then gradually slow down, our intrinsic pulses and rhythms leading to a state of natural mind-body relaxation. The progressive relaxation sequence introduced in these quieting exercises helps to accomplish this by using a combination of Applied Psychomusicology techniques, and a guided narration, designed to help us achieve a state of deep, restful meditation. In essence, these deep relaxation CDs combine a number of sounds and techniques (drones, brain lateralization, a hemispheric synchronization pulse, ocean sounds), with progressive relaxation scripts that escort the listener into deep relaxation or meditation with the help of a gently descending (84 to 54 beats per minute) tempo.



Track one: Becoming Mindful
A guided meditation for raising self-awareness and mindfulness. Narrated imagery accompanied by pulse entrainment music. Features Indian Tamboura.

Track two: Becoming Mindful (without Tamboura)
Same meditation as above with alternate instrumental backing (without Tamboura). This track gives the listener the option of following the “Becoming Mindful” meditation from track one without the Tamboura drone.

Track three: Music for Raising Sound Awareness
Instrumental music for self contemplation. Can be used as background for composing, or flowing with, your own awareness-raising imageries.
