Blog - Snagglebox – Autism, Parenting, Support

Concept:

A mix of both personal anecdotes and "useful stuff", this blog is chock-full of resources, support, and information. Australian author Bec Oakley, who has a background in psychology, is the mom of two boys on the spectrum, and she's on the spectrum herself. She's a talented writer who has written award-winning plays and a children's book, and her blog is just as well-written and engaging. Snagglebox also offers concrete tips for parents and teachers, with free downloads like 45 Ideas for Classroom Friendly Fidget Toys.

Get to know me:

I’m Bec Oakley and you’ve landed at Snagglebox, a place with autism information that’s easy to understand
in a space that’s (hopefully) comfortable for everybody. No ads, no drama, no sensory or information overload.
So come on in! There’s useful stuff inside. My deal is that I have a background in psychology and geeky things like statistics and data analysis, but writing is what stokes my fire. I’ve won awards as a playwright, and was super excited when my first children’s book about disability awareness and inclusion was published last year (second one coming in September, yay!).

I’m an autistic parent to two teenage autistic sons (Max, my Rock Band guitar god and Attie, my pixel art Picasso), and have been studying and working in the developmental disabilities field one way or another most of my adult life. I’m definitely not a morning person and if you open a passionfruit near me I may have to slap you.
