The Transporters DVD is the brainchild of Professor Simon Baron-C
ohen, a leading world authority on autism and Director of the Autism Research Center at Cambridge University in the United Kingdom. Simon and the team behind The Transporters wanted to create a series children with autism would love and that would teach them about emotions at the same time. They set about inventing eight lovable vehicles, specifically designed to appeal to children with autism and Asperger's syndrome. These trains, trams and cable cars have adventures based around 15 key emotions. Cleverly, the vehicles have real human faces so the children learn to recognize emotions on real faces rather than cartoon ones. This helps them to generalize what they learn into everyday life. The specially produced North American version of the DVD has US accents and vocabulary.
