ASO Champion, Gareth Scobie

Gareth Scobie is running 260km through the Sahara Desert in support of the ASO.

Since 2006 he has competed in 22 Ironman triathlons around the world, as well as dozens of 70.3 Ironman triathlons, ultra-marathons, marathons, half-marathons, 10K’s and trail races, all while working full-time as an Executive in the financial services industry. Last April he finished the Marathon des Sables ultra-marathon in Morocco (a six day, 260 km self-supported stage race through the Sahara) as the best placed Canadian.

The Marathon des Sables is the world’s largest and longest-standing expedition race. Gareth will be facing temperatures between 95-110 degrees Fahrenheit, sandstorms, thunderstorms, pain and exhaustion, carrying everything he needs for 6 days of running and camping (food, clothing) along the course with him.

Gareth finished last year’s Marathon des Sables as the best placed Canadian. This year he has his eye on finishing in the elite top 50 and on raising $100 for each kilometre of his race in support of the ASO.

Gareth is an incredible inspiration. We are amazed by his dedication to his sport, his perseverance, his spirit and his desire to help raise awareness of Asperger Syndrome and funds for the ASO while he pushes himself to his personal limits through this intense challenge.

Please help us spread the word about Gareth’s mission. You can use the links below to let family, friends and your online networks know about Gareth’s efforts, and encourage them to help him meet is $26,000 goal for the ASO.
